The Neurology Department provides inpatient, day case, urgent outpatient and elective outpatient neurology services for patients in Sunderland, South Tyneside and North Durham. We provide general and specialist clinics to diagnose and manage people with neurological disorders. Specialist nurses run patient accessible helplines accessible Monday to Friday encompassing epilepsy, headache, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis. 

The department is research active and supports the delivery of local, regional and national research projects to provide opportunities for patients.
We work closely with local neuro-rehabilitation and neuro-physiology specialists, and with regional neurology and neurosurgery services.
