About the network

The BAME Staff Network provides a forum for staff to come together in a safe space, identify and respond to matters that affect staff and contribute to improving work experience. The network is a confidential, safe space for staff and can be used to share experiences, provide advice and support, raise concerns and identify solutions, as well as generate ideas for Professional Development.

Our staff networks exist to promote diversity within the workplace, tackle isolation that some colleagues experience, and be a critical friend advocating equality, diversity and inclusion; we are not just a resource for individuals but for the whole organisation.

How to join?

Its free and easy to join and you can be involved as much or as little as you like.  The network is a safe, fun and engaging opportunity for people to come together.  Join by emailing stsft.bame.staffnetwork@nhs.net

The BAME staff network WhatsApp group is also up and running. If you want to join please click on the link: https://chat.whatsapp.com/BC6dyujxzMA6AZSuItibkZ

FAQs

What does a network really achieve?

The staff network gives you a voice, the ability to influence change and promote good practice within the Trust.

When and where does the network meet?

The dates, times and locations of all future meetings will be shared via our email mailing list and also published on our intranet page.

I identify as BAME, how do I join the network?

To join the network all you need to do is email stsft.bame.staffnetwork@nhs.net and we will send you the details of our next meeting.

I'm not BAME, how can I better support my colleagues?

There is lots you can do to support your colleagues! You may wish to read some of the useful resources on this intranet page but there are a number of other ways for you to be an active ally within our Trust:

  • The Trust is developing ways to better utilise "allies" across the organisation, for more information please email james.higgin1@nhs.net
  • Support the network wherever possible - we have posters available for staff areas and can come and talk to your teams about the importance of the network.
  • Ensure you are amplifying the voices of your colleagues who raise concerns around racism, use your role to influence others.
  • Above all, its vital you challenge and report prejudice and incivility whereever you find it - do not leave it to your BAME colleagues to tackle.

Can I join the network without attending a meeting?

Of course! By emailing stsft.bame.staffnetwork@nhs.net we can add you to our mailing list. This will give you lots of information about whats going on in the network. You can also confidentially email any of our network team if there's an item you would like anonymously raised at the next meeting.
