About the network

The vision for the Positive Health Network is to provide an opportunity for all staff across Sunderland and South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust - living with long term physical or mental health conditions (or those who have carers responsibilties) - to play an active role in raising awareness and promoting an understanding of these conditions in order to foster an informed workforce and build a compassionate and inclusive workplace.

The network is a confidential, safe space for staff and can be used to share experiences, provide advice and support, raise concerns and identify solutions, as well as genderate ideas for professional development.

Our staff networks exist to promote diversity withing the workplace, tackle the isolation that some colleagues experience, and be a critical friend advocating for equality, diversity and inclusion, We are not just a resource for idividuals but for the whole organisation.

How to join?

Its free and easy to join and you can be involved as much or as little as you like.  The network is a safe, fun and engaging opportunity for people to come together.  Join by emailing stsft.positivehealth.staffnetwork@nhs.net

Who's Who?

FAQs

What does a network really achieve?

The staff network gives you a voice, the ability to influence change and promote good practice within the Trust.

When and where does the network meet?

The dates, times and locations of all future meetings will be shared via our email mailing list and also published in our calendar here on our intranet page.

I have a disability, long term-health condition or I am a carer for someone who does - how do I join the network?

To join the network all you need to do is email stsft.positivehealth.staffnetwork@nhs.net and we will send you the details of our next meeting.

How can I better support my colleagues?

There is lots you can do to support disabled colleagues or those with a long-term health condition. If you are a manager then you can read the Trust's new Reasonable Adjustments Guidance (which was produced in collaboration with our network) to ensure you are meeting your colleagues needs. You may also wish to read some of the useful resources on this intranet page but there are a number of other waus to be an active ally in our Trust:

  • The Trust is developing ways to better utilise "allies" across the organisation, for more information please email james.higgin1@nhs.net
  • Support the network wherever possible - we have posters available for staff areas and can come and talk to your teams about the importance of the network.
  • Ensure you are amplifying the voices of your colleagues who raise concerns around racism, use your role to influence others.
  • Above all, its vital you challenge and report prejudice and incivility whereever you find it - do not leave it to your disabled colleagues to tackle.

Can I join the network without attending a meeting?

Of course! By emailing stsft.positivehealth.staffnetwork@nhs.net we can add you to our mailing list. This will give you lots of information about whats going on in the network. You can also confidentially email any of our network team if there's an item you would like anonymously raised at the next meeting.
