The quality team are based on South Tyneside site and help to ensure that postgraduate doctors receive the highest quality of training and education to assure the highest quality of patient care.
It is the role of the quality team to monitor the standard of education and training. We do this by monitoring and triangulating feedback from national and regional quality assurance and benchmarking exercises as well at trust level by way of end of placement surveys and departmental feedback.
The Quality Cycle includes:-
External bodies:
NHS England leads the National Health Service (NHS) in England
NHS England – Northeast and Yorkshire
Is one of seven regional teams that supports the delivery and commissioning of high quality services. It is responsible for the quality, financial and operational performance of all NHS organisations and play a key role in the assurance and delivery process of NHS providers.
They also support the identity and development of 4 integrated care systems (ICS).
Integrated care systems
ICSs include two key parts: Integrated care boards (ICBs) and Integrated care partnerships (ICPs). This dual structure is designed to support ICSs to act both as bodies responsible for NHS money and performance at the same time as acting as a wider system partnership.
ICSs have a critical role to play in driving forward efforts to improve the population’s health and tackling inequalities in their local areas.
Integrated care boards
The role of the ICB is to allocate the NHS budget and commission services it is directly accountable to NHS England for spend and performance. The ICB and its partner NHS trusts and foundation trusts must develop a joint plan for capital spending (spending on buildings, infrastructure and equipment) for providers within the geography.
Integrated care partnerships
The ICP is a joint committee of the ICB and local authorities it supports partnership working to develop an ‘integrated care strategy’, a plan to address the wider health care, public health and social care needs of the population.
National bodies
The NHS organisations within ICSs, including ICBs, NHS trusts and foundation trusts, will be accountable to NHS England for their operational and financial performance. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) will independently review and rate the quality of partnership working within ICSs, alongside its existing responsibilities for regulating and inspecting health and care services.
Interpreting the diagram
The diagram uses the framework to explain how organisations will contribute to system working at these different levels. Many organisations will work across more than one level, while there will be variation in ways of working between ICSs given their different sizes and how they have developed
The General Medical Council (GMC):

The Foundation Schools
Foundation schools are not bricks and mortar institutions. They are a conceptual group of institutions that bring together medical schools, the local deanery, trusts (acute, mental health and PCTs) and other organisations such as hospices. They aim to offer training to foundation doctors in a range of different settings and clinical environments. The schools are administered by a central local staff which is supported by the deanery.
The schools deliver training according to national guidance developed by the UKFPO. There are local variations in some areas
