The Health Literacy Team has a big work plan for the next year. You can read it here.

At the moment, the team is looking at the way we write as a Trust. We're here to help you write for the average UK reading age.

Feedback

The Health Literacy Team gave feedback on leaflets and posters for the new Tobacco Dependence Treatment Service (TDTS). The service supports new mums and their families to quite smoking while they're pregnant.

"This is incredibly helpful and picked up so many things we hadn't thought about. So important to get this right before we go to print. It's important to keep these pointers in mind for all future work."

Tiffany Ghee, Project Manager, Fresh Balance Programme

The Health Literacy Team has been working to help lower the reading age of Endscopy leaflets and letters sent to patients.

"As a senior nurse, I've learnt a lot from working with the Health Literacy team. It is assumed we know how to write for patients, but we're not trained in how to write simply or for the local reading age. Launching the HL team is going to be really helpful for the trust because not everyone knows what health literacy is. I've been really lucky to work with the team from the beginning. It's been a massive help that's really needed."

Donna Brand, Endoscopy Project Sister

The Health Literacy Team gave feedback on a poster for the new Maternity Voices Partnership. The group aims to get feedback from people who have used STSFT maternity srrvices in the past year.

"I have found the Health Literacy Team a fantastic resource and support with a recent piece of work. They adapted a flyer I had produced for the local community and made it much easier to read and understand. They have been very supportive and I keep recommending them to colleagues too. The work they do ensures patients , relatives and carers are the focus of all that we do."

Lesley Carlton, Lead Nurse for Patient Experience

The Alcohol Care Team (ACT) is a specialist team in the Trust. It supports patients with their alcohol recovery. It does this by giving care planning, medication and a support network as well as wider alcohol services.

"The Health Literacy Team provided invaluable support with the development of the ACT's patient information leaflet. This was important to ensure information about the service was accessible for all of our client group."
