The various services within Clinical Health Psychology offer help and support to adult patients with psychological needs related to a physical health condition. Living with a health condition or injury can impact on a person’s lifestyle, roles, relationships and result in difficult thoughts and feelings. The service can help people come to terms with and adjust to their health condition, help patients make decisions about their treatment or provide an assessment regarding suitability of treatment. The service can also help patients cope with the impact of their physical health condition, and assist in making changes that maintain and improve health.
The department consists of clinical and counselling psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and specialist nurses who are trained to support people in understanding the psychological impact of physical health problems, and can offer a wide range of interventions to promote wellbeing and improve quality of life. The team can also offer consultation, supervision and specialist training to the physical health multi-disciplinary team.
