Preceptorship signals the start of the professional journey and is a period of support for practitioners at the start of their careers, beginning on the 1st day of employment as a newly registered Band 5.
We recognise the value of preceptorship and expect all new Band 5 registrants to:
During the 1st week of clinical practice all new band 5 registrants should meet with their preceptor to agree and document objectives (in the Learning Contract) for the next 6 months. Individual handbooks (containing documentation and guidance for preceptorship) for all roles, can be found in the Preceptorship Documentation section and should be printed off in preparation for this meeting.
Preceptees will receive an email with joining instructions, links to presentations and documentation needed for their preceptorship period. This information can also be accessed in the documentation section.
If you are supporting new preceptees and would like support or guidance or just have a question then please contact Preceptorship Lead or Practice Education Nurse.
For more information about the key expectations of your role when supporting preceptees please see the Preceptorship programme flow chart.
