Staff well being and resilience are essential. Staff should be actively involved in selecting, planning and evaluating  well being initiatives with a promotion on a good work and life balance. The health of staff should be assessed with the implementation of health initiatives implemented as a result.  Nurse leaders foster a culture of day to day recognition, and benefits can be seen through high staff retention rates.

Work in this standard workstream is aimed at ensuring:
 

  • The organisation assesses the health of its employees, and have developed health initiatives as a result of this assessment
  • Senior leadership integrates employee wellbeing and resilience into strategic planning
  • The trust asks nurses for suggestions re wellbeing initiatives 
  • The trust involves nurses in planning and evaluation of well-being initiatives selected for implementation.
  • The trust provides opportunities for nurses to create work schedules that supports their well-being.
  • Nurses are encouraged to undertake and recognised for community voluntary activities.
  • Nurse leadership fosters  a culture of day to day recognition
  • There are support opportunities offered to address well-being of staff who have experienced adverse work related situation
  • The trust has a strategy to address physical fatigue experienced by health care team
  • The trust has a strategy to address compassion fatigue experienced by health care team
