The safety and well-being of staff and patients is crucial, we aim to ensure a safe environment with a cultuire free from incivility, bullying and violence. Nurses and the multidisciplinary team should establish safety practices through a collaborative shared decision making approach taking into account fluctuations in patient acuity and transitions of care.

Work in this standard workstream is aimed at ensuring:

  • Nurses are involved in reporting, reviewing and identifying trends in patient safety related events.
  • Nurses are involved in reporting, reviewing and identifying trends in nurse safety related events
  • The trust promotes a culture free from incivility, bullying and violence and has methods to track and address trends.
  • The trust safeguards nurses from verbal and physical violence from patients and families
  • The trust supports nurses to communicate concerns about long term staffing plans
  • Front line nurses are involved in daily staffing decisions relating to fluctuating patient conditions, volume or availability of staff.
  • There is multi-professional decision making regarding the transition of patients between levels of care.
