For staff interested in becoming a NMP the SOP explains the processes for identifying suitable candidates for education and training in the non-medical prescribing role, trust registration, prescribing within a framework that ensures competent use of medicines, outlining the scope/limitations all of which will ensure safe and effective use of medicines by non-medical prescribers in line with the statutory requirements of the Medicines Act 1968 and subsequent legislative and NHS regulations amendments.

More information relating to the Training of Non-Medical Prescribers and the Benefits can be found on Health Education England website.

Staff intending to apply for a non-medical prescribing course must discuss this with their line manager and matron/head of service first and then complete the Trust Expression of interest form.  This form is to be returned to stsft.cpd@nhs.net to be put forward to a Trust panel to authorise.  Staff must not apply directly to the university for a place if they wish to be funded for the programme, but must wait for authorisation to be given by the Trust.
