As a Trust it’s important to ensure that we continue to put all our efforts and commitment into delivering the best possible outcomes for all our patients.  Doing this means maximising our effectiveness, and developing and harnessing the potential of ALL our staff. 

To help us do this we are launching our Trust wide appraisal policy and process.  (This process applies to all staff except those in Medical i.e Doctors, or Dental roles).  The process represents a clear, consistent and fair approach to appraisal in order to successfully achieve our strategic objectives. 

The new appraisal process will be aligned to and will support Revalidation (for our nursing and midwifery staff), as well as their career development.  The process will also replace KSF.

Through our Trust wide appraisal process we can ensure that everyone is aligned to our vision and values to create outstanding future hospital services which offer the very highest quality of safe patient care and clinical excellence for each and every resident of South Tyneside and Sunderland. It is critical that that all staff understand that delivering our vision depends on the skills and efforts of every member of staff. Through effective appraisals staff are able to see the positive contribution they make every day to patient outcomes.

Our appraisal process is our commitment to developing staff and helping them achieve their full potential. In order to do this, we will ensure that staff have:

  • A health and wellbeing conversation;
  • The ability and support to deliver optimal performance;
  • Clear objectives aligned to our overall vision, values, leadership and behavioural standards;
  • Opportunities to learn new skills and develop or enhance existing skills,

To access the Appraisal e-learning module: 

  • Login to ESR and go on your ESR dashboard. Click on the "Learner Homepage" tab.
  • Locate the module named "155 Appraisal E-learning (Exc Medical & Dental)" and click on the play icon to start the module.
