Absence Reporting

The Medical Rostering Team is the main contact for any Doctors in Training (DiT) and Trust Doctors when they need to report their absence.

Who do I contact if I need to report an absence?

Between 08:30 and 16:30 Monday to Friday you must:
Contact the Medical Rostering Team via phone on 0191 202 4038 – if there is no answer please leave a voicemail.

Out of hours, weekends and Bank Holidays:

Contact the DM on-call via switchboard on 0191 5656256 (SRH) and 0191 4041000 (STDH).

You must relay the following information:

  • Reason for absence
  • If any on-calls are affected
  • How long you expect to be absent
  • Anticipated return to work date - where known

It is important to notify your absence as early as possible so cover can be arranged:

  • Day shifts: Absences must be reported within 2 hours of shift commencement
  • Night shifts: Absences must be reported before 10:00am

What happens when I return to work?

When you are ‘fit for work’ you must inform Medical Rostering, even if this is not the same date that you will return to work. Once you have done this, your Directorate Manager will invite you for a ‘Return to Work Interview’ where necessary.
