The role of a ward manager is one that requires utilising leadership, organisational skills and understanding of budgetary issues in healthcare. To lead a team of nursing and healthcare assistants/ support workers in delivering highly effective safe and quality care. 

Qualifications and Experience required

Having a Nursing degree would be desirable having registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council is essential. As a senior nurse or Deputy ward manager working in a leadership role or experience of leading a team would be beneficial if considering this role.

Two routes to gain further leadership qualifications

Apprentice route

 In a leadership role the Trust may support further development  Leadership Apprenticeships :: South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust Intranet (stsft.nhs.uk)

Non apprentice route

If wishing to self-fund. Leadership programmes are offered at local Universities in the Northeast, applications are via University website application portal.
