The Charitable Funds Committee agreed to fund two projects at its meeting in August, both for Ophthalmology.
The charitable funds Committee meets regularly to review projects submitted for funding from the Trusts Charitable Funds, projects of a value over £5,000 automatically go to the committee for review along with any deemed unusual by the Exec Team. The committee reviews multiple proposals at its meetings, not all are approved, some are rejected as inappropriate, others may be differed pending additional information.
There was a proposal approved in principle but requiring additional information to be submitted to the committee prior to the granting of full approval, this will be covered in a later update once full approval is given.
Below is an outline of each project given full approval by the committee at this meeting;
Project name Colour Fundus Camera for use with new Ophthalmology service at Cleadon Park
Department/ward Ophthalmology
Charitable Fund Ophthalmology Funds
Project description
The Charitable Funds Committee approved the purchase of a Colour Fundus Camera for use with the new ophthalmology service at Cleadon Park.
A Colour Fundus camera is used to document, identify and investigate various pathologies ranging from Macular Degeneration, inflammatory eye disease, pigmentary fundus lesions and diabetic retinopathy.
With COVID 19 there is increased demand for photography of this nature as it allows for virtual assessments to be made. Patients only needing to attend in person for scanning, with the clinicians able to assess and diagnose remotely removing the need for the patient to return for a face to face appointment.
Project name Injection Chair for use with new Ophthalmology service at Cleadon Park
The Charitable Funds Committee approved the purchase of an injection chair to help equip the new ophthalmology service at Cleadon Park.
The positioning of the patient is paramount for injections in to the eye, this requires a specific style of chair, with adjustable headrests and height movement, as well as reclining facilities.
