Adult ward is comprised of 3x4 Bedded Bays 1x2 Bedded Bay 4xSide rooms (provided for patients who need to be isolated or for patients with special requirements)
Children’s Ward is comprised of 1x4 bedded children’s ward.
We provide care for patients who have been scheduled as planned admissions, with medical and surgical eye conditions.
We also regularly admit patients from the Emergency Department and from outpatient clinics if patients require inpatient treatment. We operate a Named Nursing system. This ensures that patients admitted to the ward are allocated a qualified Named nurse.
This nurse will have ultimate responsibility for providing care, throughout the patients hospital stay.
Qualified staff are also responsible for regularly mentoring student nurses, during the various stages of their nurse training.
We also provide separate Pre Assessment and Nurse Led Socket Clinics.
We consider that all team members are equally responsible for providing good communication to patients, relatives and carers.
We feel that our contribution to the multi-disciplinary team plays an integral part of the functioning services provided here at Sunderland Eye Infirmary.
We strive to regularly assess and review the service we provide to patients with a view to continuously developing and improving the care we give. The Children’s Ward is staffed by suitably qualified Children’s Nurses.
Visiting is restricted to Appointments only at present due to the current Pandemic. Please contact the Ward to arrange. This will be frequently reviewed and updated according to Trust guidelines.
