What we do

Located within Sunderland Eye Infirmary the Cataract Treatment Centre is one of the busiest cataract units in the country delivering high quality, high volume cataract surgery.

Our team of dedicated doctors and nurses offer a complete package of care for the treatment of cataracts which is a common eye condition causing a number of visual disturbances including blurred vision, glare and colour distortion.

Modern cataract surgery at Sunderland Cataract Treatment Centre is performed under local anaesthetic in the form of either numbing drops or an anaesthetic injection; sedation is also available on certain operating lists if appropriate. Surgical appointments usually last approximately two hours from admission to discharge although the actual surgery time is considerably less.

Patients are usually referred to us by their GP or optician.
