What we do

The Haematology team provides clinical and laboratory services in Sunderland, South Tyneside and Gateshead. We manage disorders in malignant haematology, haemoglobinopathies, general haematology and coagulation. Sunderland provides a BSH level 3 service, looking after patients undergoing acute leukaemia induction and autologous stem cell transplantation. Sunderland provides care for Teenage and Young Adults with haematological malignancies and has an out-patient paediatric haematology service. Haemophilia services, CAR-T cell therapy and allogeneic stem cell transplantation are provided by the tertiary referral centre in Newcastle upon Tyne. We run an active research programme participating in national and pharmaceutical company-sponsored trials. We participate in the speciality training programme for Haematology and have NTN Haematology Specialist Trainees rotating through Sunderland and Gateshead.
