Sunderland Royal Hospital and South Tyneside District Hospital have 24/7 access to on-site psychiatric liaison teams (PLT). The teams consist of consultant pyschiatrists, nurse consultant, occupational therapist, psychology, registered mental health nurses, clinical support workers, administrative staff and peer support. 

PLT offers assessment and treatment to patients of any age attending the acute hospital with mental health needs, as well as carrying a caseload of inpatients who require concurrent mental health and physical health treatment.
