The Children’s Physiotherapy team provide assessment and treatment for children and young people under the age of 19. Our philosophy is to enable children and young people to achieve their maximum potential of independence. We do this by enabling children, young people and their carers to confidently manage their difficulties/disability within their home and the wider community. Therapy may be offered on an individual basis or as part of a group. 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age birth to 19 years (if in full time education)
  • Children who have a general delay, disorder of movement, disability or illness, which may be improved, controlled or alleviated by physiotherapy intervention
  • Our therapists see children and young people with a range of medical conditions including:
  • Congenital Disorders e.g. Spina bifida, positional talipes
  • Developmental delay e.g. delays in sitting standing, walking
  • Developmental co-ordination disorder (dyspraxia)
  • Developmental and Neurological Disorder e.g. Cerebral Palsy
  • Gait Problems (toe walking)
  • Disorders of Bones joints and muscles & skin e.g. Muscular dystrophies, spinal muscular atrophy

Where is the Service provided?

Children and young people can be seen in clinic at Palmer Community Hospital, in nurseries, schools and at home

Referrals

Referrals - are accepted from Consultants, GPs and Health Care Professionals (School Nurses, Health Visitors, Speech Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Occupational Therapists).
