The Joint Formulary consists of medicines, which have been recommended by the Area Prescribing Committee in conjunction with Consultants, GPs and other prescribers.   The contents of the formulary are supported by:

  • Sunderland Clinical Commissioning Group
  • S Tyneside Clinical Commissioning Group
  • S Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust
  • Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust

The formulary is intended to:

  • encourage safe, effective and economical prescribing
  • enable safe and effective transfer of prescribing from secondary to primary care
  • facilitate continuity of treatment and minimise supply problems.

The jurisdiction of the STS Joint Formulary is the remit of the Area Prrescribing Committee (APC). The APC meets every two months (on the first Wednesday of the even months) to consider applications to add new medicines to the Joint Formulary. Applications must be submitted TWO weeks prior to the next meeting.
