This process should only be used when the Pharmacy is closed - i.e Out of Hours.

  1. Search the Omniview and Medicines location list to find wards on your site which may have stock of the medicine you require. 
    • If the medicine you require is a Controlled Drug (CD) contact the Clinical Site Manager (CSM) for advice (CD's are not on these lists)
  2. If the medicine is not available:
    • Is the medicine critical? i.e. is it urgent or needed before pharmacy is next open? : link to critical medicines SOP
    • Discuss with prescriber if medicine can be omitted or administration delayed.
    • If prescriber decides to omit or delay - Medicine Administrator must choose 'Dr Decision to omit' from within MAR and enter Doctors name in administration comment box.
  3. If prescriber decides the medicine is required before pharmacy is next open:
    • Is stock only available on another site? - discuss stock transfer with CSM.
    • If stock not available at any location contact on call pharmacist via switchboard.
