Making time for Young Carers, is this year’s theme for Young Carers Action Day. Whether they are the patient or are supporting the person they care for as a patient, we need to be able to recognise, signpost and provide reasonable adjustments whilst in our care.

So, who is a Young Carer?

In order to make sure that we can provide the relevant training and resources to identify and support Young Carers across our Trust. We are asking all staff to complete a short survey regarding Young Carer Awareness here.

The deadline date for completion of the survey is Wednesday 22nd March. All feedback is invaluable and very much appreciated.

Young Carer ID Card

Young Carer have told us locally that a Young Carer ID card, similar to our Trust Carer Passport, would initiate these conversations between Young Carer and Health Professional.

A workshop event, hosted by South Tyneside Council will take place on Tuesday 28th March to develop this initiative. If you are interested in attending please book a place via the link here.

A Young Carers ID card is already available in Sunderland and further details in relation to this can be accessed here.

Further details about how we can support a Young Carer who may present an ID card at the point of care will follow.
