The World Cup will take place between 22 November and 18 December 2022.

There has been a long-established link between a rise in reports of Domestic Abuse and Football games with statistics showing that when England played during the World Cup 2018 Domestic Abuse increased by 28% regardless of the result, increasing to 38% when they lost.

However, it is important to understand that whilst football and alcohol do not cause Domestic Abuse, it can be an added trigger increasing the likelihood of violence in persons with already controlling and abusive behaviours.

The links below highlight the issues surrounding domestic abuse and football and some of the initiatives to promote a change in attitudes and behaviours.

During the Euro 2020/21 tournament domestic abuse attendances to STSFT increased by 27.7%.

However, we need to remember that Domestic Abuse is always prevalent, with the safety of victims/survivors and their children reliant upon the support they receive.
