We Can Talk was founded to transform the experience of children and young people who attend hospital due to their mental health, and the staff who support them. The programme was developed by hospital staff working alongside young people with lived experiences to co-produce cultural change.

The We Can Talk impact report outlines how the work in hospital in embedding real, measurable change in the mental health culture in NHS hospitals.

Key findings include:

  • We Can Talk project has enhanced quality of care, increased staff confidence, improved support systems, and altered perceptions of mental health in acute hospital settings.
  • Staff who have undertook We Can Talk training feel more confident and knowledgeable in supporting children and young people attending our Emergency Department due to mental health
  • 98% of trainees reporting a positive impact on their job
