We are pleased to let you know about some important ward moves.  These will take place at Sunderland Royal Hospital over this week and next week.  It means that services will be back into their original footprint.  They will move back to where they were before the pandemic.

This week

The following moves will happen this week.  This will start this afternoon Tuesday (15 Aug) and we aim for this to be complete by Friday (18 Aug):

  • Stroke (E58) – Our stroke ward will move back to E58 from D46.
  • Respiratory (E54 and Annex) - Our respiratory ward will move back to E54 and the Annex from E58.

We will use the empty space on E55 to safely decant and move patients.

Next week

We are also planning for further ward moves next week.  If possible, we hope this will start on Monday (21 Aug) and we aim for this to be complete by Thursday (24 Aug):

  • Neuro rehab (D46) – Neuro rehab patients currently on E50 will be cared for on D46.
  • General medicine (E50) – E50 will become a general medicine ward.

Again, we will use the empty space on E55 to safely decant and move patients.

As you can imagine there is lots of planning involved.  There will also be more movement of patients across the hospital site as we do this. Please be patient and kind to each other.

Please note, all contact numbers for the wards will stay the same.
