The NHS Staff Council has accepted the pay offer recently made between the Government and trade unions. This will apply to all staff on NHS terms and conditions.

As part of the pay award, colleagues will get two one-off payments. These include:

  • An extra one-off lump sum of at least £1,655
  • A permanent 5% pay rise on all bands worth at least £1,065.

You will receive this as part of your June pay.

Information about the pay offer can be found here. There is also a helpful pay calculator here. This shows what the deal means for you.

Please note that the extra payments are subject to tax and national insurance.

Getting the extra pay in instalments

We know that some colleagues may prefer to receive these payments in instalments. This means it is paid across several months, rather than in one payment. For example staff who receive universal credit may be affected by a one off payment. They may find that instalments work better for them and don’t affect the benefits they are entitled to.

If you would prefer to have the payments made in instalments, you must email Sonia.atkinson@nhs.net before 12 noon on Wednesday 31 May 2023.

It’s important to get advice through the Universal Credit helpline or Citizens Advice. This will help you understand how the payments could affect your own personal situation. Visit Understanding Universal Credit - How earnings affect Universal Credit for more information.

IMPORTANT

  • Payments will be spread over 10 months. The last payment will be March 2024.
  • In exceptional circumstances you can request instalments over a period of less than 10 months. You will need to have taken advice from the Universal Credit helpline or Citizens Advice.
  • Once payments are agreed they cannot be changed.
  • If you leave the Trust we may need look at how your instalments are paid.
