It's the responsibility of all colleagues to create an environment within our Trust which is inclusive and free of prejudice.
With this in mind, our Equality Diversity and Inclusion team has developed our new 'Transitioning at work and gender diversity' policy, which has been approved and is now live.
The policy has been developed with members of our LGBT+ staff network and a Trans and Non-Binary working group. This work has been done to ensure all of our processes, including recruitment, are free from discrimination with regards to gender diversity. The policy sets out the ways we will ensure that trans and non-binary colleagues are supported before and during their employment with us.
The policy includes what we expect from managers who are supporting trans colleagues, and provides guidance on how to do so. There is also a support plan that managers can complete when supporting a colleague who wishes to change their gender.
The policy also provides examples of discrimination and prejudice based on gender identity. This is to educate colleagues about bullying, harassment and violence. It will also help us to ensure we investigate all claims of bullying, harassment and discrimination that are made.
You can find the policy here. The EDI Team is currently developing some e-learning, to help managers to understand and implement the policy, so we can provide support to any trans or non-binary colleagues.
