Helen Bone managed the our Diabetic Eye Screening Programme for 20 years.
It was set up in April 2002 to photograph a patient’s retina and detect possible diabetic eye disease.
In 2015, it was enhanced by then South Tyneside CCG.
This means as well as eye screening, it delivers all nine of the NICE recommended annual health checks. These happen at a 45 minute ‘one stop’ appointment.
It is now known as our Diabetic Screening One Stop Service.
On Wednesday, November 16, Helen will address the Diabetes Professional Care (DPC) about the service.
The event will be held at Olympia London.
Helen said:
“I am delighted to have an opportunity to fly the flag for STSFT. "This will showcase our local programme and the brilliant dedicated team behind it.”

The programme is seen as a national leader.
It received an NHS70 Parliamentary Award from South Tyneside MP, Emma Lewell-Buck.
It has also been awarded a runner up accolade in the National Patient Experience Awards.
It also gets many positive comments from our participants, their friends and families.
