We updated you last week on the steps we are taking to stamp out antisocial behaviour. We’ve seen this particularly on our Sunderland Royal site lately.

Our task and finish group met again this week. We were joined by a member of Northumbria Police’s Neighbourhood Policing Team.

The following actions are now in place:

  • Extra security on site at Sunderland Royal Hospital between 4pm and midnight every day. Over 20 new CCTV signs now visible on site.
  • A new red card letter has been written and is now in use. Anyone who gets a red card will not be allowed to visit anyone in hospital.
  • Northumbria Police has confirmed that the site is subject to a Public Spaces Protection Order. This gives officers powers to seize opened alcohol and issues fixed penalty fines.

We are also working on a number of further actions, including:

  • Extra CCTV cameras to be installed at the main entrance and in current entrance ‘blind spots’.  This will be followed by a wider installation of extra CCTV cameras across the site in due course.
  • Talking to all local businesses around Sunderland Royal Hospital to ask them not to sell alcohol to anyone who is wearing a patient wristband.
  • We are also working with the Police to see if we can get an increased police presence on site.   We are committed to stamping out any form of antisocial behaviour and abuse. Please make sure you keep looking out for each other in these awful circumstances. Please also continue to report any issues so we know when and where they are happening.
