The 2023 World Triathlon Championship Series will take place on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 July in Sunderland. Please note the following information about road closures.

Colleagues are reminded to carry their staff ID badge with them at all times if they are working in the community. If you need emergency access through any of the road closures you will need to show your ID badge to one of the stewards.

Road closures
For the event to take place safely, a number of roads will need to be closed in and around Roker and Seaburn seafront.

Temporary road closures will be in place from Friday 28 July to Sunday 30 July 2023. These apply to all vehicles, bikes and horses that are not involved with the event.

Emergency services will be given access at all times.

Friday 28 July – road closures will be in place between 9.30am-11.15am to allow the elite athletes a practice use of the route so they can plan their race day strategy. Athletes will need to cycle on both sides of the road for one of the routes, so road closures will be in place to maintain their safety.

Saturday 29 July – road closures will be in place between 5.00am-6.00pm
Sunday 30 July - road closures will be in place between 4.00am-5.30pm

Please note Marine Walk is closed to vehicles from 24 July to allow event set up.
