Ensuring everyone feels able to speak up when they have concerns is really important to us as we try to make speaking up business as usual. In October 2021, we introduced the National Guardian's Office e-learning packages to support our staff in knowing what speaking up is and why it’s important. We have made the first module, Speak Up, mandatory for everyone to undertake and the second module, Listen Up, is aimed at managers and supervisors at all levels and focuses on listening and understanding the barriers to speaking up.
Thank you to everyone who has managed to undertake this training so far - we have been pleased at the take-up to date. If you haven't been able to find the time to review the module, we really would encourage you to take the time to do so; we appreciate some staff find it difficult to create the time to undertake some of your mandatory training, particularly given the significant pressures and challenges you have been facing, but we really do want you to know when you should raise concerns and how you can do this.
We want to make speaking up business as usual - not something people are reluctant to do. This will not only improve the quality and safety of care but enhance the working lives or our staff.
