On the 1 April 2023, the Government introduced a new Prepayment Certificate (PPC) to reduce the cost of HRT.

You could save money if you pay more than two HRT prescription charges within 12 months.

Each item on NHS prescription usually costs £9.65. You can buy the HRT PPC for a one-off payment of £19.97.

The certificate will be valid for 12 months and covers a number of HRT medicines. You can buy an HRT PPC online at www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/hrt-ppc. You can also buy it in-person at some pharmacies. Before buying an HRT PPC, check if:

• You’re eligible for free NHS prescriptions. You can use the eligibility checker - www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/check

• Your medicine is covered by the HRT PPC. For a list of eligible HRT medication, visit www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/hrt-ppc-medicines.

• A 3 or 12 month PPC is more suitable for you. It costs £31.25 for 3 months and £111.60 for 12 months. It covers all NHS prescriptions, not just HRT items. Visit www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/ppc
