The Tobacco Dependence Service is now rapidly rolling out to all inpatient wards at Sunderland Royal and South Tyneside Hospitals over the next few months.

The pharmacy teams are aware of the roll out plan and is supporting wards with stock of nicotine replacement therapy products.

Inpatient service

  • Nurses identify current smokers, smokers undertaking a quit attempt and vape users and request nicotine replacement therapy products to support nicotine withdrawal symptoms
  • The Tobacco Dependence Service picks up initial referrals to the service through Meditech nurse assessment on V6 and visit the patient to provide further support
  • Follow up referral through V6 order called Tobacco Dependency Service is also available for those who refuse the service initially but change their mind
  • On discharge we facilitate a smooth transition to local stop smoking services if requested

Sunderland Royal Hospital - EAU, B22, C33, C36, D42, D43, D48, E54, E58, B26, B28, B20, B21, D40, D41

South Tyneside Hospital - EAU, Wards 9 and 10

From 27 March - C32, C38, E52, E56

From 3 April - C30, C31, Ward 1, Ward 8, Ward 12

From 10 April - Ward 2, Ward 3, Ward 5 and Ward 19
