We are starting to see an increase in the number of flu cases locally and as you would expect a rise in admissions. Given the pressures we currently face, it is vitally important for us all to do our bit and protect ourselves and others from flu and other respiratory illnesses.
We know that cases of flu are likely to further rise. Vaccination is the best form of defence against the flu virus. It not only protects you, but your patients, colleagues and your family and friends. If you haven’t yet had your free flu jab you can get it in the following ways:
1. Book an appointment via the email sent to you by OPAS. You can choose a time and venue to suit you. If you haven’t received your email check your junk folder. If it’s not there you can contact Occupational Health on stsft.ochealth@nhs.net or 0191 5699029.
2. Drop in to our winter vaccination clinic this Saturday in Occ Health at Sunderland Royal Hospital. You don’t need an appointment just come between 9am and 4pm. Please bring your NHS number.
3. Keep an eye out for our mobile vaccinators who are visiting wards and departments in the coming weeks.
Please note you can also have your COVID-19 jab at the clinics if you want it.
IMPORTANT - All colleagues should watch out for any signs and symptoms of flu and COVID-19. If you do not feel well enough to come to work you should contact your line manager / person in charge. If you have symptoms of respiratory illness, but are well enough to come into work you should take extra measures to protect your patients and colleagues. This includes practicing excellent hand hygiene and wearing a face mask.
