We have seen a large increase in the numbers of patients coming into the hospital with respiratory illness, particularly flu. At the moment there are 230 people in our hospitals with flu (5 of which in Critical Care) and many more unwell out in our communities.
Flu is indiscriminate. It can affect anyone at any time and make you seriously ill or in some cases be fatal. Flu can be extremely dangerous for our older and more vulnerable patients. We are also seeing a lot of younger patients, some with no previous health issues, being admitted into our hospitals too.
It has never been more important for you to protect yourself, patients, colleagues and loved ones by taking the flu jab. You can still spread flu without feeling unwell. There is no doubt that the vaccine is the best protection against getting and spreading the virus.
