Risk Management Policy

This policy is designed to support the delivery of the Trust Risk Management Strategy by strengthening the existing risk management arrangements, further embedding risk management at a directorate and divisional level, and ensuring appropriate escalation of the risks through the organisation to the Trust’s Board of Directors.

Our staff are best placed to understand the risks applicable to their areas of work and therefore manage these risks within a structured risk management framework. In addition, greater local level ownership of risk, enhanced clarity regarding roles and responsibilities for risk management and strengthened governance arrangements will support delivery of improved risk management.

This policy provides clear instructions on the identification, assessment, recording and management or risks and ensures:

  • a consistent approach to managing all risks and the actions necessary to reduce risk;
  • the Trust’s Board of Directors can be confident that the highest level risks are identified to inform decision making and business planning and action is taken to mitigate risk where ever possible; and
  • all staff, sub-contractors, volunteers, students etc are aware of their roles and responsibilities within the risk management process.

However, as there are potential hazards involved in the use of ionising radiation the Trust has a legal responsibility to  ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, that the health and safety of anyone who may be exposed to the hazards arising from the use of ionising radiations, lasers, ultra-violet and other time-varying electric or magnetic fields within the Trust is maintained at all times; whilst also ensuring the safety and protection of patients undergoing examinations and procedures requiring the use of ionising radiation.

The Radiation Safety Policy sets out how these risks are to be managed within the Trust. The policy also describes the arrangements for the personal radiation monitoring of employees working with radiation.
