The Pharmacy team are getting set for a new robot to be installed.

This will take place in the department’s building close to Hylton Road and is part of a wider plan to improve the facilities.

As the work is carried out, wards and departments are asked to keep in mind our Pharmacy colleagues are working during a challenge time of change.

This includes work to prepare for the new automated dispensing system’s installation. This involves putting in a temporary dispensary and store area, so that the service can continue during the next phase of the work.

The launch of the new robot will significantly improve the dispensing of items for patient and ward stocks. Its installation will begin on Monday, February 27.

Dispensary Department

  • Porters will continue to bring orders down to the department.
  • It is asked any ad hoc requests, including controlled drug requests, are placed in the letter box. This is to the left of the main entrance to the building. The Pharmacy Team has offered reassurances this will be checked regularly.
  • The air tube to pharmacy will not be available from Friday, February 25.
  • An update will be shared when the system is switched back on once the service has moved back into the dispensary and it can be used again.
  • Colleagues as asked to avoid writing on any request to “ring when ready” to help avoid delays to the process.
  • If any requests are clinically urgent, please hand these into the main reception for action.
  • Our team on the Phoenix Unit are asked to let patients who are waiting for prescriptions on the same day there may be a longer wait during the refurbishment work.
  • Phone lines will remain the same in the department.

Reception cover

  • Reception will be manned for any requests weekdays and weekends.
  • Weekday evenings - Please phone the interim dispensary on 42732 from the ward or the pharmacy reception area to discuss your request with the team.

Please can staff be patient and understanding whilst this work is being undertaken as there may be disruption and small delays in receiving medication.
