One of our ICCU doctors has been appointed to the Board of Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM).

Pete Hersey is our Clinical co-director for critical care.

He is a consultant in Intensive Care Medicine and anaesthesia.

He has been a consultant with the Trust since 2012.

The FICM is the professional and statutory body for the speciality of intensive care medicine.

It works on behalf of its members and wider services to promote education and standards, influence and define national policy.

It also improves outcomes for patients and their families.

The Faculty is an elected Board responsible for planning strategy.

Pete was first involved with the FICM as faculty tutor for Sunderland from 2013 to 2017.

He has since held a series of roles. These have included work on its national e-portfolio and education programmes.

He has also had a hand in its training assessment and quality committee.

He was awarded a Faculty Commendation in 2021.
