Our new CHoICE Outpatient Pharmacy at Sunderland Royal Hospital will open on Monday, August 21.

The revamp, which has seen a significant investment into the service, has seen it move into the space where reception previously was.

Reception will move into the space where the existing pharmacy is in the long term.

The change will make the pharmacy a much better place for our colleagues to work.

It has been kitted out with a £260,000 BD robot. This stocks and selects and labels medicines to be dispensed.

It replaces an older version, which had come to the end of its useful time.

The replacement will streamline the dispensing process meaning that the pharmacy team will be able to spend more time ensuring that patients get the maximum benefit from their medicines.

The pharmacy’s opening hours will remain the same.

These are 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Thursday, and then 9am to 5pm on Friday.

A new seating area, with more places to sit, and more space will be made available to visitors as they wait for their prescriptions.

The pharmacy deals with prescription issued, by Outpatient clinics and the Emergency Department as well as some of those from Maternity and Day Case Surgery patients.
