We have just been made aware of the following unfortunate disruptions to Sunderland Metro/rail travel.
From Sunday 18 December until 31 December Sunderland Train station will be closed on most days due to staff shortages and industrial action. Sunderland station is operated by Northern Railway and Metro trains can only stop at the station when it is staffed. When the station is closed trains will run through the station without stopping. This will affect Metro as well as Grand Central and Northern trains. For more information, visit: Live travel news | nexus.org.uk
Due to ongoing emergency repairs, services between Park Lane and South Hylton will remain suspended into the New Year. This is so that Network Rail can carry out major repairs to a substation which was damaged by flooding. Due to reduced power supply, there is also reduced frequency between Pelaw and Park Lane. From Monday, 19 December, there will be a replacement bus service between Park Lane and South Hylton calling at each station.
