Member of our Emergency Department selected for role on Shared Decision Making Council

One of our Emergency Department team will help influence the future of healthcare recruitment with a place on an NHS council.

Sujith Thankachan George, known as George, is a Deputy Department Manager. He is based at South Tyneside District Hospital.

We are delighted to share he has become a member of the North East and Yorkshire International Recruitment and Retention Shared Decision Making Council.

He will be using his experience as an internationally recruited colleague in his role.

This role is with NHS England.

The council focuses on the international recruitment process by NHS employers.

It looks at issues related to staff retention.

The information is then fed back to NHS England. This will help employers address the observations.

It also gives local teams the chance to run pilot projects. These will support taking on more colleagues and keep overseas staff.

George joined the hospital in 2017.

Since 2021, he has supported our Recruitment Team.

He will continue to work to support the retention of international staff.
This will include doctors, nurses and other health care professionals.
