COVID-19 continues to show the world what we’ve always known—infection prevention and Control (IPC) plays a crucial role in keeping our patients, visitors and staff safe and healthy.

In addition to fighting a global pandemic, the infection prevention and control community is protecting us from surges in healthcare-associated infections.

These include measles outbreaks, flu season and so many other day-to-day infectious battles.

International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW), established in 1986, aims to shine a light on infection prevention each and every year.

It runs from Sunday, October 16, to Saturday, October 22.

This year’s theme is The Future is Infection Prevention: 50 Years of Infection Prevention.

It highlights the decades of infection prevention and inspires the next generation of IPC practitioners to join the fight.

The STSFT IPC team would like to a say a massive thank you to all staff for your ongoing support and dedication to Infection Prevention and Control.

Over the coming months the IPC Team plan to launch a number of exciting changes.

Look out for:

  • The National IPC Manual (NIPCM) for England - This is an evidence-based practice manual for use by all those involved in care provision in England.
  • New electronic audit system - This system will standardise IPC audits for hand hygiene enabling swift identification of analysis results, trends and more. It will offer real time feedback.
