Our Integrated Diagnostic Centre (IDC) is on course to open to patients from the start of April.

You may have seen the building take shape within the ground of South Tyneside District Hospital. The IDC team is now in place and final works are taking place to get our new scanners up and running.

The £10 million centre will give patients access to MRI, CT and PET-CT scans all in one place. In the past patients have had to travel to Newcastle or Middlesbrough for a PET-CT – a specialist scan which help to diagnose cancer.

The IDC is one of our latest investments on the South Tyneside site. The building has been constructed by local firm Brims Construction. It is expected that it will be handed over to the Trust and our partners Alliance Medical in the next week.

We are really looking forward to welcoming our first patients into the new building. A massive thank you to all colleagues who have helped to make this development possible.

If you would like to organise a tour of the building, you can contact Rebecca Simmons at rsimmons@alliance.co.uk
