You will be aware that some of our local unions have recently balloted their members in relation to strike action. The unions involved were the RCN and Unison.
While this is national strike action, each local union balloted their own members. For the strike action to be legal, at least 50% of those entitled to vote in the ballot must have done so. For South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, RCN and Unison did not reach the 50% return threshold and therefore did not meet the legal threshold to strike.
If you are a member of RCN and Unison this means that you are not lawfully able to take part in the planned strike action. You will be expected to attend work as normal unless you have agreed annual leave. If you have any questions please speak to your line manager or divisional HR manager.
