The Health and Safety Executive will be undertaking a programmed inspection in South Tyneside and Sunderland Foundation Trust on the 29th/30th May 2019. This inspection will focus on the Trust’s Management of Violence and Aggression and Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD’s) and will concentrate on the South Tyneside District Hospital Site.

A management inspection approach is envisaged following the Plan, Do, Check, Act principles. This entails the review of all training, risk assessment and equipment processes for the two topics.  In advance of this Inspection it is essential that all areas/teams ensure that their training records are current and all staff training is up to date which includes remote workers/our of hours/nightshift etc.  All risk assessments for Violence and Aggression and Manual Handling must be suitable and sufficient and be up to date.

Advice and guidance from the Security, Health and Safety and Wellbeing/Ergonomics team is available to support review of training and risk assessments.

When the Inspectors are on site they will always be accompanied by a member of Trust staff but they will have the freedom to speak to any staff in relation to the inspection.

Further advice and guidance will be available following an informal meeting with HSE Inspectors on the 8th May.
