Earlier this month the Fire, Safety and Security Team undertook a GOTCHA campaign on wards and departments at South Tyneside District Hospital. This involved the team attempting to gain access around the site to test the security measures in wards and departments. Also, to see how staff would react to someone walking around looking lost or even suspicious.

The objective was to identify personal items or Trust property that could have been stolen by a genuine perpetrator.  Any items left unattended that could have been stolen had a ‘GOTCHA’ sticker placed on them.

Overall, this went very well, however colleagues are reminded to be aware of the following:

  • On wards, all personal items must be locked away. If you don’t have a locker please speak to your manager.
  • Kitchen doors on wards must be locked at all times
  • Staff must always be vigilant of people entering their wards or departments and must always challenge anyone tailgating (following you through restricted access doors).
