Event to talk about organ donation and Islam

An afternoon of discussion is planned for an event which will look at organ donation and Islam.

The Let's Talk Organ Donation: Organ Donation in Our Communities will be held on Sunday, July 9.

It will run from 1.30pm until 6.30pm and will be hosted at Newcastle Eagles Vertu Motors Arena in Scotswood Road, Newcastle.

The afternoon will feature talks and educational videos from Muslim scholars and doctors.

It is being hosted by the North East and North Cumbria Renal Network in Collaboration with the British Islamic Medical Association and NHS Blood and Transplant.

Among the speakers will by Dr Sid Ahmed, our kidney specialist  and Clinical Director of Medical Specialities.

He will open the event and talk about organ donation inequalities in the community.

Other parts of the day will include a talk about the work of a Muslim chaplain, look at patient journeys and a session on the work of a retrieval surgeon.
