  • Frequency update is changing from three yearly to annually.
  • If your competency is due to expire before the 30th September 2023 please do the training when it is due for renewal.
  • For everyone else please do the training at some point prior to the 30th September 2023.
  • When you do the training the annual competency will show as blue in your matrix.
  • The annual competency will be applied as a requirement on the 1st October 2023 and will replace the three yearly competency which will be removed.
  • If you are in date with the annual training at that time your competency will turn green.  If you are not in date your competency will turn red.

Mental Capacity Act Training (all staff)

  • Frequency update is changing from three yearly to annually and there will be a change in content for clinical staff.   This reflects feedback following the CQC inspection earlier this year.
  • Training must be completed by the 30th April 2023.
  • Training will be stand alone e-learning as Mental Capacity Act Level 1 for non clinical staff and Mental Capacity Act Level 2 for clinical staff.  There is no Level 3 training.
  • The Mental Capacity Act module will be removed from the Safeguarding Adults e-learning.
  • New Mental Capacity Act competences at Level 1 and Level 2 will be applied to the relevant level of training.  The new competences will not be applied as a requirement for six months and they will therefore appear blue in your matrix when you complete the training.
  • At the end of six months the requirement will be applied. If you have completed the training by that time your competency will turn green.  If you have not completed the training by that time the competency will turn red.
  • Level 1 staff (non-clinical):  The content is generally unchanged but you must have completed the training since the 1st May 2022 to remain in date by the time the requirement is applied in six months' time.
  • To do the training in ESR search for the Certification named 155 Mental Capacity Act Level 1 or 155 Mental Capacity Act Level 2 depending on your role.    Please note that these Certifications will go live on the 21st October 2022 so will not be available until that date.

Medical Devices Training (N&M staff in relevant areas)

  • This will be "one off" training (previously three yearly).
  • You may book a place for face to face training should you or your manager feel a refresher is required.
  • Your three yearly competency will be replaced with a one off competency and your compliance updated to the date you last attended face to face training.
  • Competences are no longer required for the Laerdal Suction Unit or Nutricia Pump and these will be removed.
  • The Medical Devices Intranet page will be updated.  No competences will be awarded for reviewing any of the e-learning or video materials on that page.
  • We anticipate the work to be completed by no later than the 30th October 2022.  In the meantime you do not need to update your competency unless you or your manager feel a refresher is necessary.
