From Wednesday 1 June, we are changing our COVID-19 testing arrangements for elective patients. This means:
Day case patients will be asked to do a Lateral Flow Test 3 days (72 hours) before their day case procedure and we will then do an LFT on the day of their procedure. Please click here to view flow chart. Inpatients coming into hospital for a planned surgery will need to come in for a PCR test 3 days (72 hours) before their surgery. We will also do an LFT on the day they arrive for surgery. Please click here to view flow chart.
If patients do test positive for COVID-19 there will be a discussion with the treating clinical team. In most cases, we anticipate that the day case procedures or inpatient surgery will be safe to go ahead but this is a discussion we will have with individual patients to assess the risk.
We have also prepared some patient information leaflets (see links below) which we will be sharing with patients to help explain the new testing process: Inpatient surgery patient information leaflet (click here) Day case procedure patient information leaflet (click here)
