Our bed replacement programme will start from Tuesday 5th May 2023. As part of this we will be replacing patient beds and mattresses at South Tyneside District Hospital and Sunderland Royal Hospital.

Due to the scale of the project this will be done in phases. Starting next week at South Tyneside District Hospital. SCIP and ward 19 will be completed in the first week. The programme at South Tyneside will last around 4-5 weeks. All areas affected will be contacted by their matron in advance of the swap over so arrangements can be made. There will be as little disruption to patient care as possible.

The beds and mattresses will be delivered outside maternity. The first delivery will be tomorrow (Wednesday 26th April) from 8am. The parallel bays opposite maternity will be cordoned off all day. We ask that colleagues do not park in these bays. They will be blocked off by cones.

The next set of deliveries will take place between Tuesday 2nd – Friday 5th May. Again the bays will be cordoned off between 8am for the full day. If you are parked in any of the bays overnight please make sure they are vacated by no later than 7.45am. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Once the programme is complete at South Tyneside, work will begin at Sunderland. This is expected to be w/c 19th June 2023. Further information will be shared nearer the time.

We will have extra staff on hand to support this. Training will be provided on the new equipment. Further information about this will follow. If you have any questions please contact either Lynn Brown or Alan Spraggon via switchboard who will be able to direct your call.
